| The health of an organization begins with the key
executives and management group. If there is dysfunction at this level, it will play
itself out in various ways throughout the organization. Hence, assessing the viability of
any entity starts with these individuals. Like a mobile, an organization is a system, and
the separate parts are interconnected. If something affects one part of the mobile, it is
felt throughout this system, often pulling it out of its natural state of balance. One effective way to
diagnose systems is to view them on a continuum from "closed" to
"open" on several variables. Such things as individual self-worth;
communication; rules/roles; sense of humor; and a link to the outside world receive high
marks in the "open" system.
